Sow a seed and save the bees.

‘Sow a seed of kindness and watch it bloom.’

This week we sent out a Bee and Butterfly mix of seeds to share the spirit of community.

Mr Fothergill’s Bee and Butterfly Mix

Over 20 bee and butterfly attracting varieties and these seeds are simple to sow. A thin scatter of seeds, I recommend planting by a high windowsill or in a low planter box, high rising blooms such as the california poppy are a cheery way to start the day and enjoy full sun.

IMG_1846A well draining soil, a sunny position and a little love (to ensure they stay moist), will provide a great pollination boost for your vegetable patch.

Flowers grow from 30cm-90cm high and will benefit from thinning out as necessary.
Planting flower seeds in spring is a great activity to do with children and even the most pedantically clean kids will enjoy getting their hands dirty. Especially when they can get out their butterfly nets and sketch pads in the garden after a couple of months.

This packet pictured came with blooms in all colours of the rainbow: orange and apricot, scarlet and fire engine reds, variegated pinks and paper white petals dancing on the wind.
